Summer Reading List

I went on a book shopping spree and it was heaven. Here are my picks and what I am planning to read this summer.

1. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I have heard so much hype about this book its unbelievable (its making me worried it won't live up to my expectations ^_^) . But I am so excited to read this. I really want a romance feel-good book, a easy read I can just chill with on holiday. It does sound amazing though, and definitely my kind of holiday book.

2. The Maze Runner by James Dashner. This is pretty much the only major dystopian series I haven't read so I though it was about time a gave it a go. I have had a big dystopia break as it was getting repetitive but I think this looks different and not like any of the others I've read . It sounds brilliant.

3. The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I bought this last summer but never got around to reading it for some reason. I'm determined to read it this year thought (it is also on a reading list for school this year so I do kind of have to read it, but I wanted to anyway). I have seen the film (Emma Stone - silently weeps in a corner at her perfection), even though I wanted to read the book first, but it just made me want to read it even more. I do love a bit of history.

4. If I Stay by Gayle Forman. I bought this based on the film trailer. Which is quite bad I know as the film is probably completely different, but the concept is the same and that's what I liked about it. The whole out-of-body-watching-your-life experience fascinates me, and I love the idea, I just hope the writing and the smaller details in the storyline don't let it down.

5. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. I had heard nothing about this book. Nothing. I saw it in Waterstones and it caught my eye. It has the vaguest blurb ever so I literally have no idea what is about. And that's what I love about it. It  could be amazing, It could be rubbish, but I love that it's a surprise. I am so excited to read this.

If you wish to see reviews on these books prior to buying them, you can find a few of my favourite book blogs here, here and here. They are all equally wonderful.

I am going to a follow up post to this at the end of the summer with mini reviews of each of the books.

What are you reading this summer? Have you read any of these? Do you recommend any?

Lots of Love

  1. Anna and The French Kiss is the perfect romance, feel good and read-by-the-pool book! It's one of those books that you want to reread straight away after you finish! I've watch The Help and loved it but have yet to read the book! I bought Fangirl today because there is just so much hype around it so I'm giving in. I'll see if it deserves all the rave reviews!

  2. Book buying sprees are my favourite:)
I have read The Help and The Maze Runner, which I both really enjoyed. I agree with you the maze runner is very different to most other dystopians and the movie is coming out in september (the trailer looks great, you should check it out if you haven't seen it!) which is exciting. Anna and the French Kiss is very hyped at the moment, I don't know why I haven't picked it up!

On another random note but I used to read your blog, way back in 2012 but then I kind of fell out of the blogging world for a while... I just came across you again and it's just as lovely as I remember!

  3. I really want to read Anna and the French Kiss ... and also We Were Liars. The hype about We Were Liars is insane, and it sounds so intriguing and confusing .... there's so much talk about the ending, I just want to know what it is!!!! I have read the Maze Runner - it was good, I think. I can't really remember though!

This summer I'm planning to read The Great Gatsby (I have to, for school) and also Great Expectations, Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein, The Dream Thieves (sequel to The Raven Boys, SO EXCITED!!!), A Clash of Kings (sequel to Game of Thrones) and Persuasion. Should be a good mix! :D

    1. I seem to have missed something, as I haven't seen much hype around We Were Liars, but it does sound so intriguing. You've got me excited about the ending - I want to know now too!!! I haven't read any of the books you're planning to read, but my best friend recently read The Great Gatsby and keeps nagging at me to read it. I have Persuasion on my shelf to read along with Great Expectations and I NEED to read them. If I get through these 5 (which it's likely I will) I shall be reading them. I love the Great Expectations storyline, I can't wait to read it :) Your list sounds amazing! xox

  4. All I have read this summer is If I Stay. I liked it but I am pretty sure the movie is going to be better since it had way more details in the trailer alone! Hopefully you enjoy it.

Thanks for following me by the way (I followed back)! I love your style posts :)
